Parma is a farming community in southeastern Idaho, which got its name from Parma, Italy. It is illustrative of a simpler time, when there were many more family farms. The shrinking number of farming families and acres under production is threatened by the diminishing importance of family farms and the increasing value of land as a resource for development instead of for agriculture. My original Parma imagery was a straight documentary with just the field. This print is a montage of two images blended together digitally to make a concise statement. By juxtaposing the manhole casing and cover with the farmland, I introduce a whole new ending for this battle of land use in the West.
