This church is a coursed rubble structure that stands at a section corner where a saloon, school, hotel, and general store formed the early Owyhee County community of Oreana. It was designed and built by John Pierson and Jim Kelly in 1883. The general store was remodeled in 1961 into the church. It is the only remaining building from the group. The church and storage building are architecturally significant as an example of early localized masonry construction. Oreana is located in southwest Idaho in the foothills of the Owyhee Mountains off Highway 78 between Murphy and Grandview Idaho. In researching the story of this small community, I found the Idaho Historical Society of great value.
