This is a true story: Early one morning on my way to a shoot in Springdale, Montana, following the first fall dusting of snow, I was compelled by some indefinable energy to shoot Sheep Mountain blanketed with this glowing new snow. Maybe it was the "spirit of peace" that drew me closer to my inevitable discovery. It is not my normal sensibility to go out of my way to shoot scenic landscapes for the sake of the scenery. I am usually inspired to shoot the landscape with a purpose beyond the "beautiful". Following an illegal U-turn on interstate 191, I headed back down the freeway in the opposite direction looking for the right vantage point to shoot. When I found the appropriate place, as I setup and leveled my Hasselblad, I looked into the viewfinder, and there for the first time I saw the deer.
